Out in the Weather - Recount Writing

As the weather begins to get colder, the students of Room 7 have been reflecting on their past experiences where the weather has played a part in what they did that day. Here are a collection of their weather related recounts. Get yourself a hot drink, put your slippers on and enjoy the work of our budding young writers!

One day I went on my trampolines. It was really sunny, it was about 30 degrees. Then it started to pour down with rain and I got soaking wet. I went inside to get my brothers, their names are Max and Sam.

We went outside and did some flips. We were really wet and that was when Max decided to have a water balloon fight. We filled the water balloons up. It took around 20 minutes. We had fifty each.

Then we hid around the house. I saw Max hiding behind the hedge so I snuck up behind him and threw a water balloon at him, but I missed. Max still didn't know I was there. I threw another one at Max and I hit him and he was out.

It was now just me and Sam left. I saw Sam peeking through the garden so I took a long shot and hit him. So we met back where we started and I got the golden water balloon. Then I threw it at Max and I accidentally hit his face. Pop! Ouch!

Cyclone Cook
After Cyclone Cook had stopped, my family and I were set the job of getting rid of a 30 metre pine tree that had fallen down and smashed the gate and the power line to the house.

It was very hot and all you could hear was the sound of the chainsaw. There were wood chips everywhere. It took 3 to 4 days to chop and move all the wood. Then we had to burn some of it and turn some of it into firewood. It was a long time before they regained power.

Last year, around New Years Eve, me and my family went to Gisborne. In the car we were thinking that it was going to be hot and sunny the whole time. But the first few days were the total opposite. It was stormy and rainy and the wind was so strong that it ripped our tent and we had to sleep in the car. The weather was bad! We expected to be going surfing and diving a lot but it was horrific! After about three days, it started to calm down but we didn't know if it would pick up again. On the day before New Year's Day it was sunny again so we made a swing and enjoyed the sunlight.

When I played with AJ it was a sunny day. My bike was broken so I went to my house to tell my Dad. Then we went to the park, we played on the swings. I was so happy because it was sunny. It was so hot and warm. We played a little bit. We went to AJ's house then my house.

One night I woke up and my room was pitch black. There had been a thunder storm! I walked to the light, flicked the switch but it did not work because there had been a power cut. The day before, my brother had created a little light. I picked it up but I broke it! I gave up and went to bed. In the morning I tried the light switch again, it still did not work. So I went to my Mum and Dad's room, woke them up and said "There has been a power cut!" Then we hopped in the car and saw the power line, it had been struck by lightning! Then we saw some men working on it and we asked them if they wanted anything from the shop. They said "a coke please!" So we went to the shop and got them a coke, brought it to them and went back home. We had dinner and went to bed. In the morning I checked the lights and the power was on. What a relief!

Clive School Choir

Earlier in the term, Room 7 sent some of their reporters to interview Anne Condon, Clive School's own choir teacher.

In the interview, she tells us about the singing group that she is a part of and also shares some of her favourite moments with her singing.

We hope you enjoy it!

Year 6 Camp Term 1 2018

WOW!
...Where do we even start?
...How can we put into words how awesome our experience was?

The Year 6 students had an absolute ball at their camp at Guthrie Smith, Tutira.

They were involved in a large range of activities, involving copious amounts of communication, oodles of team work and a fair amount of stepping outside of comfort zones.

What an incredible bunch of students and parents - these photos really don't do it justice, they are just a taster. Wait until the Year 6 assembly in the coming weeks to see more! A special mention must also go to Nic Heads for some of these incredible snaps (our own photos don't quite compare).

Space Oddity

Wonder
Here's a blast from the past. During our read aloud of Wonder, we discovered that Miranda used to call Auggie, Major Tom and they would sing Space Oddity all of the time. We've pulled this out of the archives....hope you enjoy.
