Optimist Yachting - Term 4

Thank you to all the parent helpers who assisted with our Optimist yachting experience in the first week of this term. The Room 7, 8 and 9 students gained a number of skills through taking part in this valuable EOTC experience, including;

 - rigging an optimist yacht
 - tying a bowline and a figure 8 knot
 - working as a team (being either Captain or First Mate)
 - using wind direction to tack

Check out our photos below!

1. Setting up the optimist yachts before safety checks.

2. Waiting to launch after being fitted for a life jacket

3. Transporting our yachts to the water using the trailers.

4. The launch!

5. Smooth sailing and maneuvering around other yachts, swimmers and kayakers.

6. Sailing solo.

7. Our photogenic parent helpers.

Opti-Yachting

WALT assemble, and disassemble, a yacht. Next term we are going sailing at the Pandora Pond and we have to know some things about yachting before we go.

Where to put the sail.
Where to put the centre board.
How to attach the main sheet.
Where the tiller goes.
How to do some knots.
Plus lots of other different names for stuff on and around a boat.
We can't wait.

 - Many of our Year 6 students are currently participating in the Super 6 Tournament in Hastings.
 - Optimist Yachting notices for next term have just gone home to all of our families.

Here are a few links and pictures of our Clive Kids showing pride in their sporting achievements!

A warm welcome from Miss McNeill

Hi everyone, my name is Miss (Maddy) McNeill and I am a first year EIT candidate teacher. I have been at Clive school since February, and before being in the senior school I have been with Room 4 and the Explorers. I enjoy playing the piano and guitar, and I love animals! I grew up in Waimarama  so I love the beach! I am looking forward to getting to know all of the awesome year 5 and 6s!

Cross Country Training

We are now in full swing with our Term 3 Cross Country training.

Each day, the Year 5 and 6 students aim to achieve their personal best by going a little faster or a little further than the time before. We have been amazed by the students who continually strive to achieve their best and show determination and perseverance.

Keep it up, Team 789!
